Our first high design, low energy light bulb—The Plumen. Perfect for people concerned with energy use and the aesthetics of their environment. Compact Florescent Lights (CFL) have been around for several year, but have lacked any visual appeal. According to Energy Star, CFL bulbs use 75% less energy and last up to ten times longer than the standard incadesnct bulb. The Plumen goes on sale in Europe this week, and will be coming soon to the US. I’d love to see more light designers exploring the potential sexy shapes of these tubes. At $31 a pop, I won’t be purchasing one anytime soon, but they are great options for interior designers. Don’t forget that these CFL bulbs have mercury inside and after ten years of use they will need to be properly disposed.
