This project by MadArt is what I would love to see more of. I just read about it on the Made Spaces, a blog about community art and ideas. I know what I am doing tomorrow. Here is Abbey’s post:
Only a few days left to visit Madison Park businesses in Seattle to check out ‘The Window Art Project’ put on by MadArt. In this community art piece, nineteen local artists were paired up with businesses to create site-specific installations in their storefront windows. Artists were paid a stipend and were required to visit the businesses and prepare proposals of how they would use the small and sometimes challenging spaces to create their artwork. MadArt said it best: “Noting that art is most often found in prescribed places, MadArt seeks to provide the joy of discovering art in new ways. While galleries and museums are important venues, they are places the viewer goes specifically to see art. By bringing the art works to store windows, we bring art to the community.” Visit the MadArt exhibit before October 4th or check out the exhibit online.
