Riley and I met up with the creators of Bherd Studios over the weekend at The Lookout on Bellevue Ave E. in Capitol Hill. Lucky for us, we passed the work-in-progress of Mad Art’s Mad Homes Exhibition. A 3 week urban installation of public art that opens this Saturday, July 16th. Learn more about the exhibition and Mad Art Seattle. What an unexpected joy to see a house wrapped in saran wrap? (Thanks Troy!!:)
Prior to salvage and/or relocation, a group of neighboring homes, in North Capitol Hill, will be used by artists to create site specific installations for this year’s project. Artists are free to use both the interior and exterior spaces of the homes as their creative canvases to produce dynamic art installations. MadArt believes these homes will provide a novel and noteworthy venue for the public to view art. Artists will be provided a unique opportunity to work in a temporary space, without conventional gallery show constraints.
The artists’ creating the magic: Troy Gua, Julia Haack, Meg Hartwig, Luke Haynes, Amanda Manitach, Ryan Molenkamp, Allan Packer, Jason Puccinelli in collaboration with Elizabeth Potter, Sutton Beres Culler, Laura Ward, & Allyce Wood. Can’t wait to see their progress and how the installations evolve.
I wonder if they posted this free dresser on Craigslist? I sure hope so.
Mad Homes is located on 711 Bellevue Avenue East, Seattle, WA 98102
July 16–August 7, 2011, Open 12–7pm Daily
This is why I love living in Capitol Hill in Seattle!
