Pacific Crest Middle School needed to communicate their mission to perspective students and parents. We presented their team with two concepts for the brochure.

The middle grades—ages 11 through 14—are a time of great excitement and growth. During these pivotal years, the young adolescent acquires a sense of self-worth and self-esteem that will shape who she or he will be for years to come. To meet this challenge, Pacific Crest provides the emerging young adult with a support environment. The middle school program seeks to create a strong, viable community, helping the adolescent feel valued, respected, and confident.

The middle school brochure reflects student life at Pacific Crest. Each page highlights the values of the school; knowledge through inquiry, learning by doing, working in nature’s classroom, creative exploration, and building community. The brochure unfolds to a eye-catching poster that showcases student artwork and promotes their Introductory Nights for new families. It truly is ‘The Start of Something Big.’

National Geographic has a cool selection of vintage U.S. Parks posters. The posters were produced in response to the Great Depression as part of the WPA, artwork was created for public buildings while assisting struggling artists. Our current Great Recession has inspired more and more people to get out and enjoy a relatively cheap national parks vacation. There is always a silver lining. The poster above kind of reminds me of The Way In materials we designed for the Washington Parks and Forest Coalition.

Saturday, May 15th 2011
10am–3pm, FREE!

Clans of the notoriously skittish Northwest Homo-Sapien are invited to shake off their cabin fever and roam wild for an afternoon at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Luring people in with free admission and inventive graphics influenced by the region’s topography, the Northwest National Parks provide a few moments with each unit’s Alpha. Environmental groups such as the National Park Conservation Association know that with each smile and friendly exchange vitality of our country’s irreplaceable national parks is ensured for future generations. Educational activities for the children and guided tours foster a communal atmosphere, turning new patrons into park regulars.

Seattle’s National Park Family Day Event will be on Saturday, June 25th.

This poster and postcard set were created for the Wexner Center for the Arts to promote their new student membership.

With its superior artist residency program and world-class galleries, even a major cultural force such as the Wexner Center for the Arts has trouble getting young people in the door—and not just because they can’t find it amidst the post-modern architecture. Forging a partnership with the neighboring Ohio State University, the Wexner Center discounted ticket prices for students and hosted a series of late-night parties. On such a diverse campus, attracting young scholars takes more originality than the standard offer of free pizza and Coke. By combining two staples of the college experience, psychedelia and Algebra, the wildly popular “Unified Theory” campaign wittily presented the Wexner Center’s offer and enabled cultural enrichment for both communities.

The Washington Parks and Forest Coalition, a think tank of conservation and naturalist associations, convened to discuss global climate change and how it affects the Puget Sound region’s National Parks. Anchored by a keepsake-worthy program filled with stunning photography and biographies of the discussion panelists, the event focused on how best to sustain long-term access to Northwest National Parks. As the event was open to the public, publicity for the event included a bold poster designed to attract community leaders. The Washington Parks and Forest Coalition have continued the discussion at town meetings across the state.
