I would love to see a copy of this book. We know from experience that the photography will be absolutely gorgeous.

From the NYT:

The cheeseburger, for instance, requires the meat to be cooked sous vide for several hours. Freezing with liquid nitrogen ensures that the crust will stay crispy while the center stays perfectly medium rare once it is deep fried. The heirloom tomato is vacuum compressed. The cheese must be melted first, then restructured. The bun is made from scratch and toasted in beef suet. The crimini mushroom ketchup includes honey, horseradish, fish sauce, ginger and allspice.

The world’s smallest stop motion character animation, certified by the Book of Guinness World Records. The animation was created by the folks behind Wallace and Gromit, Aardman Animation.

From Nokia’s Blog:

Shooting only four seconds of footage per day, the team worked painstakingly to produce the movie. Rather than create a model for the lead character which could be manipulated (a la Wallace and Gromit), the team instead created 50 versions of her. Each Dot model started life as a sketch on paper which was then turned into a 3D render before being printed on a 3D printer. The models were then attached to a metal rod before being painted – the artist involved in painting basically couldn’t speak or breath as he applied his brushstrokes to the 9mm high models of Dot.

This is what the desktop on the first typing/computer class I had in school looked like. Booted up from a disk and everything. We would use the typing program and repeat the cryptic sentences in our books. Sentences like, ‘Ask a lad; ask a lass, all Jacks fall’. Yes we had typing books for our computers, what a genius idea.

Anyway, some awesome person has co-opted this design for their bizarro-cool photo collage blog. The interface is a memorable, nostalgic (for nerds), original mash-up of old and new. Very well done.

The Puget Sound’s unique biodiversity is at risk. Habitat destruction, over-fishing, increased toxin levels and global warming all combine to form an inhospitable environment for several species unique to this region. Astoundingly, even our vast system of National Parks is no longer a safe natural haven. Enter the National Parks Conservation Association. In this exhibition, the images of acclaimed photographer Art Wolfe, geographic keys, and informative copy, all worked together to teach naturalists and concerned citizens about the issues facing the region’s complex ecosystem. For the many people moved into action that very moment, there was also a notepad of letters addressed to Congressmen. Thematic postcards, posters, banners, and private event invitations were also created to promote the exhibition.
