East German Typography
A very cool sampling of typography from the former German Democratic Republic. Most are not digitized yet, but some of them definitely should be.
good fences make good neighbors
My dad makes cool random art sometimes. His big yard on the busy Airport Hwy is his gallery. I particularly enjoy this white picket patriotism piece he made to celebrate independence. The structure is 50′ long and 15′ high, pretty wild for citizens of Delta, OH (The Heart of it All). His blog, The Aristocrats, [...]
Amazing Space
This is excellent space design for a family entertainment center by designer Maria Yasko from Russia. Each room is based off of the Moomin books by Finnish novelist Tove Jansson. Very cool.
Vintage National Parks Posters
National Geographic has a cool selection of vintage U.S. Parks posters. The posters were produced in response to the Great Depression as part of the WPA, artwork was created for public buildings while assisting struggling artists. Our current Great Recession has inspired more and more people to get out and enjoy a relatively cheap national [...]
Tourists vs Locals

W3C WHATWG HTML5
HTML5 is coming and no there is not a space between HTML and 5. Check out A Brief History of Markup, for possibly the most amusing history of various markup acronyms ever (I know it’s a low bar). You’ll learn how we got to HTML5 without ever having HTML1, that XHTML is much more eXtreme, [...]
The Wonder Hospital at SIFF
We saw the ‘Animation for Adults’ series of shorts at SIFF on Friday and it was excellent. I am a huge fan of shorts at film festivals. It feels like you get more for your money, I think we saw a dozen shorts. Also, you don’t have to worry about sitting through some 3hr-long-gut-wrenching-crap-pile.
My clear [...]
Seattle Crawfish
We were planning on having a big ol’ crawfish boil for Memorial Day at Golden Gardens. Alas, I discovered today that local Lake Washington crawfish season doesn’t get going until the end of June. I could order them from LACrawfish.com, but even with Saturday delivery they would probably all be dead by Monday. Oh well, [...]
